Learning to Be Faithful in the Small Things at Home

Published on March 4, 2026 at 10:45 PM

There are days when homemaking feels meaningful. Fulfilling.

And then there are days when it feels overwhelming. Meaningless.

Laundry...
Dishes...
Meals...
Schedules...
Sweeping the same floor... Again.

I have felt like my entire existence was to serve others and there is nothing left for myself.

I have felt resentful towards the beautiful life the Lord has blessed me with because it didn't align with what our world deems "fulfilling".

I have been guilty of not living in gratitude.

I have been guilty of forgetting that I am literally living the life I prayed for.

But oh, how easy it is to forget where the Lord brought us from.

But Scripture has been quietly correcting that mindset in me.

Jesus said in Luke 16:10 (KJV),

“He that is faithful in that which is least is faithful also in much: and he that is unjust in the least is unjust also in much.”

That verse doesn’t say, “He that is faithful in big, important things…”

It says least.

Small things.
Hidden things.
Ordinary things.

The kind of things that fill most of my day.

Cooking dinner again.
Answering questions patiently.
Folding tiny socks.
Starting seeds.
Praying quietly over your children when they don’t even know you are.

Colossians 3:23 (KJV) says,

“And whatsoever ye do, do it heartily, as to the Lord, and not unto men;”

Whatsoever ye do.

Not just church.
Not just Bible study.
Not just the things that feel obviously spiritual.

Whatsoever.

That includes the unseen work at home.

If I am washing dishes, I can wash them as unto the Lord.

If I am teaching math for the third time, I can teach it as unto the Lord.

If I am tending a small container garden and trying (again) to grow something that may or may not survive... I can do that faithfully too.

So, when the work feels overwhelming, repetitive, or meaningless, I remind myself:

God sees it.

Hebrews 6:10 (KJV) says,

“For God is not unrighteous to forget your work and labour of love…”

He does not forget. Even when no one else notices.  Even when the laundry comes back tomorrow. Even when the sink fills up. Again.

I keep remembering this.

I keep asking the Lord to help me stay faithful in what feels small. To live in gratitude. To serve in gratitude.

He keeps reminding me that the small things are not small to Him.

And that is enough.
